Wooden horse heads made out of individual wood log - even though a bronze casting series production would be much easier.
Of course it would be much easier to use a casting procedure for our horseheads. Producing a mold only once and find a supplier-foundry to purchase a whole series from them. We decided to go another way for two reasons – even though the CHEVALVUE horse heads are produced in a limited series as well.
1. The haptic perception, active perceptible experiencing of size, outline, surface texture by integration of all skin wits is only possible, when the contact generates a pleasant feeling. Bronze appears always cold. Bronze sculptures build up a distance to the viewer – they are beautiful, but do not touch.
2. Individuality - each head is different. Even we as the producer, can not forecast the appearance of the finished heads. How appears the soul of the trunk on the sculpture. Where are branch inclusions, where will small tears appear in the wood, how detailed are the growth rings? Each CHEVALVUE horsehead is unique.
